Imagine not being able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.
This simple pleasure has been a dream for 12-year-old Hailey, who suffers from a condition that hinders her from enjoying the outdoors and the sunshine. Hailey's condition is called Epidermolysis Bullosa. It's a rare genetic connective tissue disorder that causes skin to be fragile and prone to tears and blisters very easily. It can be painful and pervasive. She has to avoid exposure to things such as sun, heat and bugs. Sadly, these elements of nature are some of her favorite things...

She yearned to be closer to nature. She wanted her own tree house, where she can enjoy the beauty of her backyard while staying sheltered and protected from the outdoors.

Hailey's wish came true with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that grants wishes brought forth by children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers and organizations jumped on board with Make-A-Wish. A team of engineers from SC Engineers and local contractors helped craft and build the house from the ground up all in a days work. The treehouse was designed specifically to accommodate her needs and feed her creativity. Hailey is an artist and finds happiness in creating. Her dream treehouse was not only designed to be her nature hideaway but also her very own little art studio, equipped with a sketch table and art supplies.
